The City of Berlin, New Hampshire has gone through significant changes in recent years and is planning for its future by redeveloping its master plan for the community. The planning board of Berlin and other residents involved in this process are asking for your help to develop a master plan for Berlin. To best plan for the future they need to know your opinions about some of the important issues in Berlin and your desires for the future of the community. While not all questions relate to things planning can directly control, knowing residents’ visions for the future is important. Thank you for taking the time to participate in this survey effort!

  1. Happy New Year! To start off 2008 we are going to have our first Master Planning public forum on Wednesday January 23, 2008. Doors will open at 6:30 and the forum will get underway at 7:00PM at the NH Community College in the cafeteria. We invite you to join us that evening at our first of a series of three public meetings to give direct input to the future of Berlin. Jeffrey H Taylor & Associates will lead the forum with assistance from Plymouth State University and the City of Berlin.

Feel free to post ideas here in advance or if you are unable to attend the meeting. We will be posting updates here on a regular basis as well as posting master plan chapters in draft form for people to review and comment on - we will provide more information on that in the future.

    Thank you for your participation!

  2. Having a series of public forums and a new blog entitled “Berlin Master Planning and Community Conversations” is a fantastic way for Berlin’s City Hall to kick off the New Year. This forum is an ideal time to begin the process of an adverse impact study relative to the major lot line adjustment that has been recently requested by North American Dismantling. At such a meeting the city’s adjoining property owners (the citizens of Berlin at a minimum) would be provided with an opportunity to be heard prior to a lot line adjustment decision.

  3. It is a shame when technicalities and loop holes compromise the intent of legal procedures. The state is way behind in her responsibility to announce her plans for environmental remediation prior to the city entertaining redevelopement options. If the glove does not fit, you must adjust this lot line that really should have beena subdivision that really should have including the State and her responsibility to remediate contamination on this site. Tis a shameful pitty.

  4. The public is invited by the City of Berlin to the second Master Plan visioning session on Wednesday March 5, 2008, 6:00PM at White Mountain Community College in the cafeteria. The second session will focus on potential future uses for the former pulp mill property as envisioned by the community. It was intended that this session would cover both downtown and the mill property, but we will be discussing the downtown at the third session to allow for adequate time to speak about both important issues.

Please feel free to start the conversation and good ideas by adding ideas to our Master Plan & Community Conversations website - http://www.berlinfuture.wordpress.com

    Any questions, please call 752-8587

  5. There will be an open forum about homelessness in Berlin and the North Country on May 21st. The forum will be in room 122 of the White Mountain Community College from 7-9. If you are interested in exploring this issue through conversation, please attend.
