Old Vision Statement – Late 1990s

Berlin is a thriving and desirable community where people work together diversifying the economy, promoting spiritual and cultural heritage, protecting resources, increasing educational opportunities, building a positive self image, and improving the quality of life.

  1. Berlin has wonderful parks and many beautiful neighbourhoods. I believe the city should host pictures of these sites, during the four seasons, to promote a healthier and more factual view of the city than the image of Berlin people usually see on the news or from just driving through. People with families, often use the internet to compare communities, Berlins’ public parks and neighbourhods are something new subdivisions and rural areas rarely offer.

  2. Hello,
I was born in Berlin in 1957. Unfortunately, my parents had to relocate to RI in 1959. I love the north woods and have always loved Berlin. I still go there at least twice per year as I have a considerable amount of family that remain in Berlin. In fact, I just visited two weeks ago.
One thing that I would love see come back to Berlin (preferably near the city park) is a place on the idea of the old community club center. It was a great place where people of all ages could meet, play games, or just talk. I know that I missed going there every time I would come up to visit my cousins any other family. When I do get to visit the area, I see the need for a place like this for kids to gather for many reasons!

Stay warm and keep Berlin thriving!

    um… is it really?
thriving and desirable community: why then are so many people leaving in search for better jobs and brighter futures?

where people work together diversifying the economy: … um diversifying the economy!?! wait….didnt a pulp mill just close down and now “Berlin” is scrambling to get a BioMass plant in here which probably will not even pan out… yeap your right we are getting pretty diverse there… lets just put all our eggs in that wooden basket that has already gone to hell.

protecting resources: oh… that must be why all our tourist attracting mountains are shaved bare, and we are still, for some strange reason, attempting to get a BioMass plant that the area cant even support or is compatible with… ok i get it now.

increasing educational opportunities: yea now this one is right… because our schools have a successful and diverse athletic department …oh wait, i mean hockey and field hockey have all the funding they need, those are the only ones that matter any ways. and its not like a music or art classes matter so we should probably cut those too. heck, lets just cut all funding to any kind of extra curricular courses or activities, those don’t matter either. you know what tear down the schools and build more ice arenas so our guys can get more practice time in. they dont need no learnin, them any ways.

building a positive self image: …. um…uh… bahahahahaha… yea ok. hence the reason there are plenty of lovely tattered and shredded banners every where, abandoned and condemned buildings, awesomely amazing streets (its like i’m off roading … all the time….sweet!)
why is that half destroyed industrial building with the big smoke stack still standing? is it another memorial to a time long past?
oh but wait we have an awesome park neatly hidden away so that half the town doesn’t even know it exists.

improving the quality of life: … and how is that going?

Look if your going to come up with a “vision statement” shouldn’t it be a vision statement, not some corny inaccurate description of what Berlin isn’t? Oh and why does every thing Berlin officially releases always have to be a run on sentence?

My name is O’Ryan McEntire, and i really do love Berlin, NH. It truly is a beautiful area. But when is Berlin going to stop and realize that Berlin desperately needs some new thinking, not a new park or memorial. No offense but, a town full of old people will die. Start Investing in the youth of this town, start showing them that we care and that there is more out there than drugs and alcohol, suicide and poverty.

you want to invest in the future? then how about we stop talking about it and attempting to write pretty “vision statements” and start doing something about it. This is a town full young people who are intensely passionate and willing, they just don’t know where to express and direct it. its up to us to show them.

you want a self sustaining future? invest in Berlin’s youth!
you want a more diverse economy? invest in Berlin’s youth!
you want to be taken care of when your old? invest in Berlin’s youth!
you want to improve the Town’s image? invest in Berlin’s youth!
you want to continue our cultural heritage? invest in Berlin’s youth!

i don’t think i could stress it enough, if you ignore the youth of this city, they will ignore you in the future. if you ignore the future it will ignore you and run you over.
